Baby Sitter Print E-mail

Madeleine’s a week away from her three month birthday, and so interested in the world around her, she gets really frustrated when she can’t make her body do what she wants.  Over the past few weeks she’s gotten in the habit of grabbing my thumbs while lying down and using them to help pull herself up to sitting.  She’d rather sit than lie down, and she’d infinitely prefer to “stand” than sit.  Unfortunately, her muscle strength and balance hold her back from standing, but I have found something to help her sit.

Is That Contagious? Print E-mail

We took Madeleine for her 8-week visit a few days ago, and all the shots that go with it.  I can’t believe the pediatrician’s office doesn’t have a shot of whiskey on hand for such an occasion, but that’s another story.  I had the doctor look at this red patch on Maddie’s hiney, and she said, “Oh, that’s not too bad a case of diaper rash.”  Huh.  So that’s what it looks like!

So we’ve finally come up with a few tricks that make the colic if not banished, at least bearable.  One is the Baby Bjorn, which my girlfriend Rebecca recommended for colic.  If we lose this I will break down sobbing.  And it has to be the Bjorn; I’ve tried the sling a few times and that simply makes her very angry.  And you don't want to see her very angry.

We seem to finally have the nursing thing under control.  The blood blisters are subsiding, so nursing is no longer painful, and I actually find myself looking forward to quiet time with Madeleine (middle-of-the-night feedings not withstanding!).  One of the things that’s made nursing time so much easier has been my awesome glider and ottoman.
