We’re plowing ahead with the solid foods thing.  Maddie’s still going with the rice cereal after her “dinner” nursing, enjoying bananas as a mid-morning snack, and today we added sweet potatoes as her afternoon snack.  Interestingly enough, she devoured the sweet potatoes while she’s a bit ambivalent about the bananas.

mad_pics_068_1.jpgI’ve been doing most of the “solid” food feedings in her Bumbo Sitter; I fold her into the chair, seat myself in front of her, and we go for it.

As long as I’m not on any time schedule, we have a great time.  She’s a pro at grabbing the spoon and helping put it into her mouth – though sometimes she grabs the spoon at the bowl piece on the end, and squishes the food through her hand!  She’s a very tactile kid, and is really exploring this new thing with all her senses.  I let her hold the spoon on her own, and she gnaws on it for a while before turning it back over to me, thoroughly stickied by her loving ministrations.  At the beginning of the feedings she’s almost lunging at the spoon with her whole body; by the end, she’s starting to show a casual disinterest in the food and I know she’s done.  I love using the sitter; it’s completely wipeable, she can sit up in it on her own, and I don’t have to make space in my house for a high-chair just yet.  And I’ve got this great bib that’s vinyl with one of those "crumb catcher" pouches on the bottom to catch any spills; a rinse-off in the sink and it’s good for the next feeding.  This one seems to be better than most because: a) the pouch is large and stands out so it actually does catch the excess, and b) the pouch unsnaps out for easy washing of all the crevices.  If only Madeleine were so easy to clean: I found sweet potato inside her nose tonight at bedtime.

Guess I can always hose her down with the bib and chair.
