Where Is Me?
Cora’s hit that adorable stage where
she talks extremely well and grasps complex ideas like pronouns or
the passage of time, but she still doesn’t always get
everything exactly right.
Last night the girls were dressed up in costume (there’s
something new) and dancing around (ditto) to their iPod music.
Costumes had taken some serious consideration, and Cora had, after
careful deliberation, chosen the Ariel costume. Well, the Ariel
costume is size 4-6x, so you can imagine it was a little big for
her.
As I pull clothes over Cora’s head,
I usually try to make a game out of it, thanks to Cora’s past
phobia about putting anything over her head. I’ll start to
pull the shirt or dress over and say, “Where’s Cora?
Where is she? Where’d she go?” until her head pops up
with a big grin attached to it. Then we try to wiggle the arms out,
and I’ll go through the same process: “Where’s
that arm? Where is it? Oh, no, it’s lost! Oh, good, there it
is!” You get the picture.
Anyway, I pulled the Ariel costume over Cora’s head with no
problem, since there was a very large opening for it, and only had
to go through a cursory “Where’s that Cora? Oh, there
she is!” When Cora tried to get her arm through, though, she
had trouble getting past the yards of fabric, and we couldn’t
find her hand to get it out the arm hole.
Cora began panicking, trying to find the right egress for her arm,
and she finally screamed, “Mommy, where is me? I can’t
find me! Where is me?”
I know these things are accidents, but they’re so darn cute
to hear.
