The Summer Bucket List

Last week I asked the girls to make a list
of all the things they wanted to be sure we did before school
started. I told them they could each pick one restaurant to go, as
well as any other activities. Cora dictated, Maddie wrote, and
we’ve been working on our Summer Bucket List ever since.

Have a movie night at home – check. Breakfast at our favorite
Original Pancake House – check. Pool – check. Pool
again – check. (That one’s on the list twice more!)
We’re tearing gleefully through the list, and I seem to be
the only one misting over occasionally as we work on it.

Maddie and I went ice skating yesterday
while Cora had some alone time with Gamma at the pool (check, and
check). We went to an awesome local donut shop for breakfast
(check). We’re doing many morning- related things as we get
up early this week and work ourselves back into a school-time
schedule. And the whole time, I’m thinking “This is the
last time we will . . . . fill in the blank.” Both girls are
ecstatic about school, which makes me very happy, and all I can
think about is how much I’m going to miss my girls.

Today’s list: get dressed up and go to a movie (remember,
we’re the weird family who dress up and make a big deal out
of going to the movie theatre), hit a birthday party at a bounce
house, take a ballet class, and go to meet-the-teacher night at
Maddie’s school. It’s a full day and the girls are
excited, so I’ve got to run; I know that all too soon they
won’t want to in the same row as me at a movie. Or the same
theatre.

If you see a couple girls and a grown woman dressed like rock stars
at an early showing of Winnie the Pooh, you know it’s us. I
can’t guarantee there won’t be a feather boa in your
popcorn if you sit next to us.
