I Survived

Well, it’s official. I now have two
girls in school.

And I’m still alive.

Cora started preschool yesterday – pre-kindergarten, three
days a week – and she loved every single minute of it.
She’s in the purple room, and so was decked out in a purple
dress, as was her flamingo named Cinderella. She had her Monday
underwear on when she went to bed Sunday night so she
wouldn’t forget. Her bag was packed.

She was ready with a capital “Read”.

Monday morning Maddie had to leave for
school before Cora was up, and Maddie begged to go wake Cora so she
could wish her “good luck”. We crept into Cora’s
room, and Cora sprung up in bed, smiled at us, and said with a
playful wiggle, “I have got LOTS of good energy!”

Yep, she was ready.

When I got back from dropping off Maddie, Cora was dressed and
eating breakfast, about ready to put on her shoes and head out the
door even though her school didn’t start for another hour. We
had flower-shaped pancakes with bacon for breakfast, as per her
request, and then Cora and Daddy snuggled and read books until it
was finally time to leave.

Cora practically ran into the school, backpack on her back,
Cinderella in her arms. We got her into her classroom and settled
at her seat with a tub of Play-Doh in front of her. As we left,
Cora did not look back.

Yes, I sniffled a bit. More than once. But my baby is so ready,
which makes me so happy for her.

We picked her up at 2 p.m., and while she was happy to see us, her
happiness did not seem to be tinged at all with relief (as in,
“Boy, am I glad you guys FINALLY showed up!”) so I know
it’s a good fit for my youngest. She was chatty and excited
on the way home, not seeming overwhelmed at all.

My girl’s in school now. It’s official. And I’m
still alive. Ish.
